This fall BaseballCloud has the privilege to work with a few very talented R&D interns that will focus on different fields in baseball analytics and player development. We look forward to working with this group of young men as they look to further their careers in baseball, as well as help grow the BaseballCloud brand.
Chris Bosco
Chris Bosco is currently an assistant baseball coach at Division 1 Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Chris is originally from Massachusetts and he played college baseball at Roger Williams University graduating in 2019 and played one season of professional baseball in the Can-Am and Pecos Leagues. Along with coaching outfielders and assisting with hitters at Northeastern, Chris is in charge of implementing and operating their player development technology. Chris is also a graphic designer which has helped him develop computer skills allowing him to create graphics and videos that Northeastern uses for visual aids in player development. Chris is interested in helping create the simplest and best solutions to help coaches and players.
Matt Boyd
Matt played one year of Division 1 baseball at the University of Northern Colorado as a pitcher before transferring to Colorado State for academics, where he is currently studying Data Science as an undergraduate. In the summer of 2020, he interned for FAST Baseball Development in Denver, CO where he helped pitchers by creating an app with visualizations and an MLB pitch comparison tool. In his free time he likes to research baseball and post on his personal blog.
Matt’s main interest is in analytics and how the numbers correlate to on-field success. There is so much opportunity with the amount of data and he is using that to help gain skills in data analysis. He is looking forward to using what he’s learned in the classroom and on his own time, and apply it during his internship with BaseballCloud.
Jack Demello
Jack graduated from UC Santa Barbara in June of this year with a BS in Statistical and Data Science. He grew up playing baseball and was always fascinated by the statistics in sports, so he was psyched to begin working as a data analytics intern for the UCSB baseball team starting in January of this year. After spending time in this field, Jack decided that he wants to pursue a career in baseball analytics. Jack enjoys conducting research projects using R and has spent most of his time on projects for player development and scouting. He's excited to use BaseballCloud's database to work on new projects.
Andrew Grenbemer
Andrew is a recent 2020 graduate of the University of Oregon. During his time at the University he majored in Business Administration and worked as a student manager with the baseball team. His main duties with the baseball team were to oversee a team of student managers and assist the coaching staff and players whether it be with on field duties or with the use of data and analytics. Andrew has always had a strong passion for the game of baseball and interest in the analytics side of the sport. He looks to use his knowledge of baseball and analytics to help teams and players be better prepared and have access to all the new information being made available.
Carter Lewis
Carter is a recent graduate from the University of Georgia where he studied Marketing and Data Science. He has always had an interest and appreciation for sabermetrics and the new technologies being introduced into the game of baseball. Carter is also interested in combining analytics with amateur scouting and player development after spending time talking with scouts during his internship with the Cape Cod League in the summer of 2019. With BaseballCloud, Carter is looking forward to researching and finding new ways to benefit players, coaches, and organizations through data analysis.
Emilio Martinez
Emilio Martinez is a native of Colorado Springs, CO and is finishing his last year of eligibility of baseball at CSU-Pueblo. He graduated in 2020 with a B.S. in Mechatronics Engineering and is currently working on an MBA. Emilio has played baseball from a young age and the ascension of a metric-driven model for players is what made him become interested in player development in the baseball world. Data is a way to objectify information, providing concrete numbers rather than merely subjective observations, which is what Emilio is most passionate about. With his tools from the classroom, self-learned knowledge, and hundreds of practical application hours, Emilio is excited to contribute to the upcoming projects that the company will be working on and to gain further knowledge and experience in research, engineering, and team collaboration. This BaseballCloud internship is the perfect way to mesh his passion for baseball and engineering that will lead to products that will make a lasting impact on the game.
Sean McLaughlin
Sean McLaughlin comes to BaseballCloud as a current pitcher in the Atlanta Braves system. He has played 5+ seasons with Atlanta after being drafted from the University of Georgia. Sean looks to add extensive professional baseball experience to the BaseballCloud team as he learns to dive deeper into baseball analytics, software, and player development.
Nick Saven
Nick Saven is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and he is currently a senior at Stetson University studying Sport Business and Business Law. For the past three years Nick has been a student manager for Stetson University's baseball program handling analytics and video. During his summers he is a travel baseball coach for one of the nation’s highly recognized programs, Cannons Baseball Academy. As for his career aspirations, Nick is currently looking to attend graduate school and earn his masters in Sports Management. Afterwards, Nick aspires to work in a professional baseball organization or a collegiate baseball program.
Luke Smailes
Luke was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago and is a student and collegiate baseball player at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA. While playing, Luke also leads the team's baseball analytics program that has successfully translated methods used in MLB to the Division-III game. Luke’s focus has been to convert individual player’s pitching and hitting metrics, along with over a decade’s worth of league play-by-play data into optimal strategic initiatives and actionable results. Luke has also begun writing for Sports Illustrated’s White Sox site, South Side Hit Pen, with analytically focused content surrounding the team.
Luke is interested in a career in baseball operations where he can combine his analytical mindset and experience with a degree in economics. As the industry continues to evolve, Luke is excited to join the BaseballCloud team and be involved at the forefront of the game’s next influential advancements.
Sam Starosciak
Sam Starosciak is a recent graduate of Arizona State University's W. P. Carey School of Business, majoring in Data Analytics with a Sports Business certificate. Over the past four years, he worked as a student manager for the ASU Baseball team and performed the responsibilities of Video Coordinator for the spring of 2020. There he was named Student Manager of the Year in 2018 and later created the ASU Baseball Analytics Twitter account. He performed summer operations roles with organizations such as the San Francisco Giants and USA Baseball. While attending classes he also wrote articles for a baseball blog known as "Sunrise Short Hops" (now callthebullpen.com).
Since graduation in May, he has been working as a data intern with Optimum Athletes out of Sacramento, CA. There he helps collect and dissect data from Blast Motion, Hittrax, and K-Vest to evaluate and improve amateur hitters. Sam aspires to work in professional baseball as a data analyst in player development or game strategy.
Noah Thurm
Noah is a sophomore in Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service studying Science, Technology, and International Affairs. He works as a data analyst for the Georgetown baseball team, compiling player development reports, directing traditional and advanced scouting, and contributing to practice programming. Prior to college, Noah spent his time behind the plate as a catcher, and hopes to stay involved with the game in an operations, business, or representation role. He is excited to refine his skills and work on pushing the game forward with BaseballCloud.
